What Business Coaching Sessions Actually Look Like (Real Client Examples)8 min read
A lot of my clients had never worked with a business coach before they hired me.
Not because they didn’t want to, but because they didn’t actually know what business coaching sessions would look like enough to feel comfortable investing in it.
They’d hear things like:
“You should get a coach.”
“Coaching will help you scale faster.”
…but no one ever really explained what actually happens in business coaching sessions.
What do you talk about? Is it strategy, or operations challenges? Is it structured or free-flowing?
Is it worth it?
So if you’ve ever found yourself thinking: “I feel like I should get a business coach… but I don’t fully get what I’d be signing up for”—this will help.
Below are real conversations I had with my 1:1 coaching clients last week so you can see what business coaching sessions actually look like in practice.
Different businesses. Different challenges. But the same underlying pattern: Things are working… but it could be going so much better.

Scaling without breaking the business
One client came to a business coaching session knowing he wanted to double the revenue in his accounting firm this year… but also knowing that with the way things were currently structured, it would break before it scaled.
He was stuck in that in-between stage where growth is possible… but not sustainable.
We mapped out what his team actually needs to look like to support $600K+ in revenue without everything falling back on him. He was debating between hiring a contractor or an employee, so we walked through the trade-offs in a practical, grounded way and made a clear decision on the call.
But the bigger blocker wasn’t strategy—it was hesitation. He’d had hiring experiences in the past that didn’t go well, and it was slowing him down from making the decision to grow his team.
So we separated what actually happened before from what he was afraid would happen again so that he could move forward without second-guessing every step.
He left with a clear hiring plan—and the confidence to actually follow through instead of sitting on the decision for another month.
Getting out of the “always behind” cycle
Another client came into a business coaching session feeling like she was constantly behind—like no matter how much she worked, it was never enough.
Her brain was juggling too many ideas, her to-do list felt endless, and she was exhausted from trying to focus on everything at once.
So first, we got everything out of her head and onto paper. Immediate relief.
Then we zoomed out: what is the actual goal right now? Not all the ideas, just the goal.
From there, we filtered what actually matters:
- What will move the needle?
- What drains your energy?
- What just feels urgent but isn’t?
We chose one clear priority for the month (one that would create meaningful progress toward her goal) and gave her brain permission to stop trying to do everything else at the same time.
And when the fear came up around “what if this isn’t the right thing?” — we worked through that too.
She left with one priority, a plan she trusted, and for the first time in weeks… a noticeable drop in that constant “I should be doing more” feeling.

Turning a slow month into a clear growth plan
One client came into a business coaching session stressed because her revenue was lower than expected last month. Not enough to panic, but enough to trigger the quiet spiral of “what am I doing wrong?”
So instead of guessing, we looked at the data. We broke down:
- how many new clients came in
- where they came from
- what was (and wasn’t) converting
We mapped out a strategy to increase new clients through a Google Ads campaign—but also identified a quick re-engagement opportunity with past clients that could bring in immediate revenue while we waited for that to work.
Then we looked at retention and spotted a gap: one team member’s retention rate was significantly lower than the rest. We planned out how she would support them in improving that— because growth isn’t just about getting more clients, it’s about keeping them.
And we addressed the mindset side of this challenge too. Because when revenue dips, confidence usually follows if you don’t interrupt it.
She left that business coaching session with a clear plan, a short-term revenue boost strategy, and three specific actions she could take immediately to move closer to her goals.
Launching an offer without guessing your way through it
Another client is launching a brand new offer and didn’t want to “just see how it goes.” She wanted a real plan coming out of her business coaching session.
So we mapped out the full strategy:
- how she’s positioning the offer
- what her visibility plan looks like
- the lead magnet and funnel
- the webinar + email nurture sequence
- how Meta ads support the launch
We also looked at her past data—what content has actually worked—and used that to plan her content instead of starting from scratch.
By the end of the session, she wasn’t wondering what to do next. She had a clear timeline, a strategy she trusted, and a plan she could execute step by step.
Getting out of being the bottleneck
One client has a fast-growing business—already up 30% year over year—but could feel that everything was starting to depend on him.
Sales, business development, follow-ups… it all lived in his head. Which meant things were getting missed, delayed, or done inconsistently.
Inside his business coaching session, we identified that his process wasn’t broken—it just wasn’t externalized.
So we built a simple system to track leads and conversions. Nothing complicated—just something reliable.
Now:
- leads don’t fall through the cracks
- his assistant can actually support the process
- and he can see his numbers clearly (conversion rate, time to close, etc.)
He left with a tool that reduces his mental load and makes growth more consistent—without requiring more effort.

Cleaning up roles so the business runs smoother
One more example —a client who recently doubled her revenue came into our business coaching session feeling like her team structure was starting to get messy.
Different locations were operating differently. Responsibilities varied across the same position. And too many things were still sitting on her plate.
As she talked it through, I mapped everything out in real time:
- where roles were inconsistent
- what needed to be standardized
- what she should no longer be responsible for
- what wasn’t owned by anyone (and needed to be)
What felt like a vague, overwhelming mess became a clear set of simple changes. She left knowing exactly what to adjust to make the business run more smoothly—without overhauling everything.
The point of 1:1 business coaching sessions
None of these clients came into their business coaching sessions with the same problem.
But they all came in with the same underlying feeling: Things are working… but they could be a lot better.
In just 45 minutes, we looked at what was actually going on, what their brain was telling them about it, and what needed to shift to create a real improvement.
This is what business coaching sessions actually look like. Not generic advice. Not surface-level strategy.
It’s an objective perspective helping you see your business clearly, make better decisions faster, and focus on the right problem at the right time.
At a certain point in your business growth journey, it’s not about working harder or finding more information.
It’s about having someone step into your business with you, see what you can’t see because you’re too close to it, and help you build a way of operating that supports both your growth and your life.
Because you don’t need more ideas.
You need strategy. You need structure. And you need a business that doesn’t rely on you holding everything together.

Ready for this kind of support?
If you’re at that point where your business is working—but it feels heavier, messier, or more consuming than you want it to be…That’s exactly what we discuss on a discovery call.
We’ll look at:
- where your business is getting stuck right now
- what’s making it harder than it needs to be
- and what needs to change to achieve your next level of growth
And if it’s a fit, I’ll share what working together could look like so that you can decide if coaching is the right level of support for your next stage of growth. No prep, no pressure.
